Replacement Crane Kitchen Faucet

24-7761 closeup

New Replacement Faucet for Pre-WW2 Crane Kitchen sinks
Finally, after years of frustration, we have come up with a solution for those who have either a worn out Crane kitchen faucet, or those who bought that neat old kitchen sink where the faucet holes are all on a 45 degree slant.  Our new faucet starts with Kohler “Triton” hot and cold valves that use ceramic quarterturn cartridges.  We then hook them up to a recast Crane Spout base that we milled to accept a 12” long swivel spout.  We also supply a hole cover for the extra hole where the sprayer used to mount.  Sorry, this faucet only comes without a diverter for sprayer.

This product does not meet California's Title 20 requirements, and cannot be sold to addresses within California

The photo at right shows our new faucet attached to a circa 1938 Crane “Kitchen Pride” sink.  The faucet will also fit Crane “Kitchen Queen” and many “Sunnyday” sinks.  It will not fit the Crane sinks that either have the spout hole on the top flat area above the faucet, or the sinks that used a large plastic plate to hide the faucet.  Faucet centers are 11”, Chrome only.  Save yourself a kitchen remodel!

Crane Valve Bodies

Crane temple body

Crane “Temple Dial-ese” Metal Spout Valve Body
After years of robbing these valves off of perfectly good sinks, we found a manufacturer who was willing to go the extra mile and mill new bodies using an original valve as a pattern.  While these are not cast brass like the original Crane lavatory bodies, they are milled from solid brass stock.  These will fit onto postwar Crane widespread lavatory sinks using the metal spout.  They include the Criterion, Diana, Norwich, Elayne, and Westland.  Crane originally called this the “Temple” valve, these are an dimensionally exact copy of the original.  We have several ways of buying these valves, one can buy them with or without handles, and there are 3 different handle options.

Crane Pre-war Shower and Concealed deck Valve stem. 5-5/16” overall length. 3/8” diameter.  Fits all Criterion & Rival concealed bath valves made before WW2, and Telsa, Agilis, and Rival Wall sinks.  If the escutcheon is retained by a chrome knurled nut, this is your stem

Crane pre-WW2 Lavatory Stem
5-3/4” overall length, 1/2” diameter.  Fits Corwith, Elegia, Ovation, Nova, and prewar Diana sinks made after the late 1920’s. Same stem used for hot & cold. If your escutcheon screws on to the valve, and there isn’t a nut holding the escutcheon down, this is the stem for you
Note; For several years in the late ‘20’s and early ‘30’s, Crane used a square broach on the end of the stem.  You have to remove the stem and compare it to both this stem and the 86-511HC stem below.  Both appear identical when installed in valve body.

Crane Early Widespread Lavy Stem
5 3/4” overall, 1/2” diameter stem, always square broach.  This stem is used in early Crane pedestal sinks up to about 1925.  Crane actually used the same valve body casting for both this stem and the 86-101HC stem, they just re-tooled the interior threads.  Both have the screw-on escutcheons.  So, if you have a Crane widespread lavatory, and it has a square top on the stem, you’ll need to pull the stem out and compare it against this picture and the one immediately above.  If it does not match this picture, you’ll need the 86-121HC available just above.
Note; a left-handed version does exist, but is no longer made.  Your only solution would be to replace the valve body with an later version original valve body. Call for Details.

Crane pre-WW2 Lavatory Stem
4-1/2” overall, 3/8” diameter.  Used in most slant back and shelf back wall hung lavatories, including some early Drexel and Corwith-Compeer models. Also, occasionally used in kitchen sink applications.  Same stem used for both hot and cold. Note; overall length can vary by application.  If your stem looks like this one, but is shorter, this one will still usually work, it simply moves the handles out a bit more.

23-X12 9/16” x 22 Valve seat for above 5.00 ea. reserve
23-1032L Bibb Screw f/ original Crane stem 1.50 ea. reserve

Crane Pre-war Slant-back Kitchen/Lavatory Stem
4” overall, stem 3/8”  Used in many Sunnyday, Kitchen Queen, and Homemaker faucets set at the “odd, 45 degree angled deck on 11” centers” and the occasional Drexel or Corwith-Compeer lavatory sinks.  If the metal escutcheons unscrew off the valve and aren’t retained by escutcheon nuts, this is most likely your stem.
Please note; some early Crane kitchen faucets made before 1928 had a slightly smaller diameter thread on the outside of the stem.  This stem can be re-milled to work, but we’ll need your valve body here to match the threads.
86-211HC Crane stem  47.50  reserve
9/16” x 22 Valve seat for above 5.00 ea. reserve
23-1032L Bibb Screw f/ original Crane stem 1.50 ea. reserve

Crane Pre-War in-wall Shower Stem
6 3/4” overall, 1/2” diameter.  Used in most Tub and Shower applications where the escutcheon screws onto the valve body.  Early versions did have the square broach and these stems can be modified to work.  May have either ceramic cross, 5 ball metal, or metal cross handles.
Note; there are other lengths that look very similar, some are available on a special order basis.
86-001HC Crane shower stem 69.00 reserve
11/16” x 22 Valve Seat for above 6.50 ea. reserve

The above stem accepts only the ceramic cross replacement handles # 86-090H and 86-230C available here

Note, these 6” centerset faucets used a couple of different seats, depending on when it was made.  We’ve discovered that a #2 pencil fits almost perfectly in an X-13 seat, but spins in a X-12 seat.  This is the easy way to tell one from the other.

Crane Lavatory Stem
Hard to find stem fits Pre-war 6” centerset faucets used on Norwich, Clermont, and other sinks. 3/8” diameter stem, barrel diameter just over 13/16”, 2-1/4” overall length.

Crane Neuvogue Conversion Kit
This kit was originally made by Crane for their 1930’s vintage Neuvogue sinks after the original stem design proved to be problematic.  Discontinued by Crane for many years, we found a valve that had the kit installed, so we had a sample to duplicate.  No more will you have to spend $600 at a machine shop trying to keep your Neuvogue working!  Sold as complete kit for both sides.

Crane Pre-WW2 Re-trim Kit
We were quite frustrated when the Crane reproduction 3/8” cross handles were discontinued by the last manufacturer, and escutcheons simply weren’t available for many of these applications either.  We could replate parts if the customer had them, but if they were missing, we were out of luck.  Not anymore!  The photo at left shows a Crane Corwith Compeer with our re-trim kit installed on the hot side, and the original Crane trim on the cold.  This kit will work on Pre-WW2 Crane sinks such as the Drexel, Corwith - Compeer, and others that use a plated escutcheon nut to hold the escutcheon on.  It will also work on some Crane kitchen sinks.  Kit comes with a set of 2 handles, two chrome deco escutcheons, 2 escutcheon nipples, and 2 stems.  Note; if you are purchasing this kit to aid you in the rebuilding of a LEAKING faucet, you’ll definitely want to replace the seats, sold separately.   Drain and trip lever not included.  Call or e-mail if you have questions regarding your application.

Post-WW2 Crane Integral Spout Lavatory kit
This kit supplies everything one needs to completely rebuild a post 1947 through 1970 (ish) Crane Drexel or Marcia Lavatory sink.  For this kit to work, your sink MUST have the faucets mounted on a 45 degree slant and the spout must be ceramic.  This kit includes handles, trim, seals, cartridges, and locknuts.  Cartridge stop is sold separately, as they rarely go bad.  Stops are sold by the each.  This kit will do both sides of your sink.

Post 1947 Crane “Temple” Widespread faucet
This faucet was used on Crane Diana, Elayne, Westland and Norwich lavatory sinks made between 1947 and 1970.  Faucets spacings can be either 10” or 12”.  For this faucet to mount on your sink, you must have the large keyhole shaped hole in the middle of the sink, with a smaller hole just behind it.  This set has been fully restored, and is ready to install.  Note; this faucet will not fit on “normal” three hole lavatory sinks, and we will need to know which Crane sink this faucet is being installed on.  Make your mid-century Crane sink look new again!

Post WW2 Crane Criterion Faucet, complete
Here’s everything one needs to make their Crane Criterion sink look and work like new again.  This set has been completely restored, the only new parts are the cartridges and the spout supply lines. We redid the metal finish in the correct brushed chrome, but the spout does suffer from a bit of rough casting, so there are minor puts in the spout.    This set will fit either the 27” or the 22” wide Criterion sink.  The supply tubes will have to be cut for the smaller sink.

1937 Crane Neuvogue Lavy sink faucet
Out of all the Crane faucets that have been made over the years, this is one of the rarest!  Crane Neuvogue sinks were designed by Henry Dreyfuss, and they featured a faucet that was almost completely enclosed by porcelain.  All one saw on these was the faucet handles sticking out of the sides of the sink.  This one has been fully restored, and has our compression stem rebuild kit in it.  No more funky spring actuated cartridges!  Sink is available as well, if you like the Crane color “Sun Tan”
