As I’m sure everyone is aware, fuel costs have created a problem with shipping large packages any distance. Here at Bathroom Machineries, we used to eat the increased cost of the shipping when we shipped a large package across the country. We can no longer afford to do this. 

Our faithful (but dimwitted) shopping cart’s freight algorithm is driven by the cost of the item, and not it’s relative size. Because the cart is dimwitted, (and we’re stuck with it) we cannot tell it how to figure freight based on size and weight, rather than the simple cost of item. We tried adjusting the costs of the items, but this really skewed our pricing.

Can you say “Oversize?”

Here’s our problem; UPS uses a arcane system based on box size to determine shipping costs. One can take a 10 pound faucet (small box) and ship it ground to New York from California for around $15. An “L” shaped curtain rod that weighs the same 10 pounds, because it requires an oversize box, will run around $110.00. Expedited freight just made the problem worse. 

We’ve finally come to the conclusion that we need to ship all of our oversize packages at “actual cost”.  Basically, we’ll charge you, the customer, what UPS is charging us.

If you see a “Oversize” icon next to the product you are purchasing, we will contact you with a freight quote, either via e-mail or telephone. We will do this before shipping your order and will not ship until we have received your okay. Or, send us an e-mail with your shipping details and we’ll be happy to give you a quote on the projected shipping costs.

Do note, the freight charges reflected by our shopping cart will be incorrect. We will charge whatever we quote. All freight quotes will be good for 1 week.
