We here at Bathroom Machineries have always been proponents of the environment. While certain varieties of mahogany are quite striking, we’ve become concerned about the
sustainability of these trees and the environment that they grow in. We began to search for Mahogany suppliers that could certify that their product wasn’t illegally
cut, or damaging to the environment. While we could find some, the cost of the wood, well, doubled.....
While we kept milling seats out of Certified African Mahogany, the quality and workability of the wood started to slip. We were losing more and more blanks to flaws in the
wood itself, and at $75 just to buy the blanks, we started to look for an alternative to Mahogany.
Enter Lyptus!
Lyptus is a trademarked Eucalyptus hybrid, grown in the forest lands of Brazil. This tree is grown alongside indigenous trees in an effort to preserve the already depleted
native ecosystem. One of the many advantages to this hybrid is it’s extremely fast maturing rate. These trees can be harvested after just 15 years of
growth. Also, the tree will send up new growth right off the stump of the previously cut tree. A Lyptus plantation can produce 4 times the amount of lumber than a
similar sized Mahogany plantation can. Lyptus has a grain pattern similar to mahogany, and has a coloration similar to American Cherry. Very dense, it does not have the
“soft spots” that many varieties of Mahogany do. We’re quite pleased to be able to offer this quality Hardwood that is also environmentally
sustainable. It’s just the right thing to do...
Lyptus is a trademark of Weyerhaeuser. http://www.lyptus.com/
